Australia’s Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS)
The Pacific Labour Scheme or PLS is known as the Australian program that provides long term employment under the Labour Mobility Program. The term of employment under this program is 12 months minimum and 3 years maximum under the Horticulture and Viticulture, Hospitality, Abattoirs and Age care.
In 2018, Vanuatu singed the agreement to engage in the Pacific Labour Scheme during the Pacific Labour Forum in Nauru.
The Pacific Labour Scheme is fully implemented by the Department of Labour (DoL) through the Employment Services Unit. DoL has a work ready pool where candidates register and employer can select from during the process of recruitment.
Partners
APTC: DOL developed a very strong relationship with APTC. We have collaboratively developed some very useful ‘Work Ready’ materials for both face-to-face training and a radio program that is broadcasted throughout Vanuatu. This program is relevant for our Domestic and International Market. Another great collaboration with APTC is the Work Ready Training that is/will conducted in Port Vila and Santo specifically for the candidates who have applied for the Pacific Labour Scheme (PLS).
